¶ Configuring a Custom Domain Name
By default, when your customer launches a Design Online session, the domain name displayed at the top of his browser will be that of the Designer Server hosting your account. You can configure your account so that the domain name displayed in the customer's browser is a variation of your domain name, as shown in the image below:
Modifying the domain name displayed in the customer's browser requires these steps:
- Select new domain name to be used for Design Online sessions
You can register a completely new domain name or you can select a 3rd-level domain name. A 3rd-level domain name is your normal domain name with a single word prepended.
- Configure DNS records for the new domain name
- Contact Print Science Technical Support so that Print Science can install an SSL certificate for the new custom domain name
- Configure your account with this new domain name
¶ DNS configuration for new domain
For the new domain name you select, you will need to create a DNS record for the domain name. There are 2 types of DNS records you can create:
- "A" record
- "CNAME" record
For an "A" record, point the new record to the IP address of the Designer Server hosting your account. For a "CNAME" record, point the record to the full domain name of the Designer Server hosting your account. Ask Print Science Technical Support for the appropriate values for the new DNS record you intend to create.
Example:
The domain name for our site is: piezoman.com
The domain name to host our Design Online sessions is: design.piezoman.com
The Designer Server hosting our account is: ma4.printscience.net
The image below illustrates creating a new CNAME record using the GoDaddy interface:
¶ Request installation of SSL certificate for custom domain name
After you have made all the required changes for switching to a custom domain, contact Print Science. We will install an SSL certificate for your custom domain name. This will allow your customers to use your custom domain name using the encrypted "https" protocol.
¶ Configure designer server with custom domain name
Navigate to the User-interface page in your Designer account. Configure the custom domain name.
The image below illustrates the configuration of the custom domain name "http://custom.print-science.com":
¶ Enable https for custom domain name
After you have received confirmation from Print Science that the SSL certificate for your custom domain name has been installed, you can configure the Designer server to use the custom domain name in combination with the encrypted "https" protocol.
To switch to using the "https" protocol, login to your admin account on the Designer server and visit the "General" menu item. Then check the box labeled "Use https" as shown below:
