Before you can send SMS notifications to your customers, you will need to create and configure an account with Twilio. Twilio manages the communication between your WordPress website and the phone network operators such as ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile.
Although creating an account at Twilio is simple, configuring the Twilio account is a multi-step process. The main steps are below but steps 6,7 and 8 are required only for those sending SMS messages to US-based customers. Unfortunately A2P campaign approval is a manual process that can take up to 2 weeks:
- Purchase phone number that will be used to send SMS messages
- Configure Messaging Service
- Configure Function to handle inbound SMS to your purchased phone number
- Configure Function to handle inbound telephone call to your purchased phone number
- Configure Brand
- Configure A2P 10DLC Campaign
- Submit A2P 10DLC Campaign for approval
- Receive approval for A2P 10DLC Campaign
